Inside each one of us, there’s a dream. Whether it is constructing a bridge, starting a charity or writing a novel, each of possess an innate talent. The key to unlocking that talent lies in our abilities to believe in yourself.

This world is full of people who make their dream a reality. The latest economic collapse led many to return to school, start business or reevaluate their goals and dreams. Despite the desperate conditions, people are making their dreams happen. It’s symbolic of our country and it’s something still alive today.

There are many reasons not follow your dream and it begins with you.

The biggest obstacles standing between us and the person we want to be is ourselves. Each of us has doubts that flicker in the back of our minds like a neon sign in a dark alley. We’re scared of the unknown, we don’t possess a track record of success in life, no one believes in us, etc. While each of us has doubts, the important thing to remember is this is just an obstacle, not the end of the road.

The first step to following your goals is having a positive perspective on yourself. While we can find many things wrong with ourselves, we can find many good things too. You’re not as tall as you want to be, you have a stutter, people don’t take you seriously, you grew up in a broke home, regardless of where you came from, it doesn’t have to define who you’ll be.

The past is a part of us but it doesn’t have to determine our futures.

The world is filled with stories of people who overcame the odds. While it was a difficult climb, each of them believed in themselves and in their abilities to get the job done. God has placed in each one of us specific talents, which given the chance to cultivate and use, would change our lives. If you’re stuck in a rut, it’s time to reevaluate your dreams.

Each of us grew up with dreams. Whether it was to become an astronaut or take a cruise to Alaska, each of us has something they want to accomplish. I say go for it. What do you have to lose? If you always enjoyed writing, start a blog. If you like to draw, take some art classes. Find something you enjoy to do. Even if your schedule is crazy, devote 10-15 minutes a day to do something you’ll love. Once you do, you’ll find your life much more enjoyable.

Take small first steps that will lead to change. Find what you’re passionate about, take classes, learn more about it, and find opportunities to put your skills to use.

Don’t let anyone tell you no. Especially, yourself. We live in a world of constant negativity. When we buy into that philosophy it’s no wonder we’re not happy with our lives. Positive thinking and a can do attitude will go a long way in achieving your dreams. There are millions of reasons not go for it, there’s only one reason to. That one reason may change your life.

If others are accomplishing their dreams, what’s stopping you?
